Kings, Conquerors, Psychopaths has been named a Finalist for the Montaigne Medal.

The Eric Hoffer Book Awards has named Kings, Conquerors, Psychopaths: From Alexander to Hitler to the Corporation as a Finalist for the Montaigne Medal.  This recognition is the third award for the book, joining the two previous distinctions from The New Generation Indie Book Awards which named it the Winner in Current Events/Social Change, and one of six Finalists for Historical Non-Fiction.

Each year, the Montaigne Medal is awarded to the most thought-provoking books, those that either illuminate, progress, or redirect thought. The Medal is named in honor of the great French philosopher Michel de Montaigne, who influenced thinkers as diverse as William Shakespeare, René Descartes, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Friedrich Nietzsche, Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Francis Bacon, Voltaire, David Hume, Edward Gibbon, Virginia Woolf, Sigmund Freud, and the Award’s eponymous American philosopher, Eric Hoffer.  Winners for the Montaigne Medal will be announced April 15.

In addition to the Grand Prize, the Eric Hoffer Awards offer other distinctions.  The da Vinci Eye is awarded to books with superior cover artwork; the First Horizon Award is given for superior work by debut authors; and the Medal Provocateur is awarded to the best work on the frontier of poetry—the experimental, the innovative, the daring and stunning, the impromptu in technique and voice.  Other awards include the winner, runner-up, and honorable mentions within eighteen all-inclusive categories, and additional honors go to academic, small, micro, and self-published presses. The category finalists and the grand prize short list are further noted.
