    Very good Joe. I do feel that there is a correlation between the demise of the family and the demise of education.

      Thanks, Eddie. We have families that were ripped apart in the 19th century, but 150 years after the end of slavery, they have still not healed. We can point fingers, or look for solutions.

    Joe,

    Since you raise the issue of the African-American family, I would suggest that it was significantly healthier in the 1950s and 60s than it is today. There were a far greater number of fathers in the homes, far fewer out-of-wedlock births, etc. My take is that the welfare state is partly to blame for the descent of the black family. What are your thoughts?

      That’s an interesting insight. I wonder if there is any census data on it, either way?
