One way that children can be “spoiled” is for them to never learn that there are consequences to their actions. If that’s not done, you get adults who expect the world to take care of them, no matter what they do (or don’t do).

One example of this is the recent case of the “affluenza teen” in Texas. He had not been held responsible by his parents, and then the court did not hold him responsible. Consequently, he violated the terms of his court agreement, fled the country aided by his mother. He may now be tried as an adult, where the consequences will be much worse.
